And while his patrons waxed poetic about his sumptuous tales, they never saw the dagger hidden in garments, or the poison in the punch bowl. His skill with the pen was matched only by his ability to extract secrets from loose-lipped royals — and sow distrust among the key players of [Region]’s politics. His life of fatal opulence ended, however, when Cassian and his partner, Calver, were betrayed by the very spymaster who trained them. With his partner and only true friend dead, Cassian narrowly escaped with his life. He’s spent the subsequent years hiding in a provincial town, where he makes a living performing at a roadside inn. He all but forgot about his past, until one day he received a letter from someone claiming to be Calver.
